About COREchella

Fed up with years of budget cuts that threatened to devastate one of the Los Angeles Unified School District’s most successful high school programs, a group of dedicated students from Cleveland Humanities Magnet first came together in 2010 in the hopes of raising awareness about the budget shortfalls that were ravaging education. With the support of then Magnet Coordinator, Gabriel Lemmon, these students conceived of and planned the inaugural COREchella, where sixteen student bands performed for five hours for more than 700 students and their families. Hosted by actor Rainn Wilson, COREchella was a huge success; not only did the student-run event raise more than $16,000 for the program, the students’ message was heard loud and clear by members of the community who attended the concert as well as by those who saw news coverage by major media outlets.

Not willing to be silenced, Cleveland Humanities Magnet students continue to come together year after year to raise the noise level about the importance of preserving this award-winning Magnet program amidst the budget challenges that continue to plague public education. With two stages, a line-up that includes over 20 student solo performers and bands, and even a couple teacher bands, COREchella turns fundraising into fundraising, and now boasts attendance of over 1500 people, and even has been featured on the Jay Leno show. In addition to great entertainment, COREchella features a food truck festival, a silent auction, and an opportunity drawing. When it comes to efforts to increase both visibility and funds to support a cause Cleveland Humanities Magnet students believe in, COREchella truly raises the bar. Get ready to be rocked to the CORE!
